were off to Russia in force.
ADVENT
UK is on a major business visit to RUSSIA, let us
know now if you want to develop projects today in this country
with real opportunities ...
Russia
has a wonderful culture and rich history. Its people are
feeling their way in the newly commercialised world in which
they now find themselves. We are not only taking European
companies to Russia to open their markets, but Russian industrial
companies are also looking to the West. We have had our successes
and will now build the next raft of business.
We
have recently secured and concluded the acquisition of a Russian
insurance company by a foreign financial services corporation,
we have opened the Russian steel market for an American steel
conglomerate, we are slowly pushing a European water purification
giant into Russian markets.
We
have several Russian medium sized banks,
insurance companies, property companies and industrialists
who are looking for strategic partners, investors,
JVs, or to sell stock its all happening
in Russia, thats for sure. Obviously the heavyweights
do not need us, they are with KPMG/Deloitte/Coopers etc., but
the medium business (which can be the same size as a European
heavyweight!) has not yet had access to European opportunities.
Many
heavyweight Russian industrialists (the so called Oligarchs)
have built vast fortunes from various state industries which
they took over when Communism collapsed. There has been a period
of The Wild East imagine all those movies
you saw about California at the turn of the nineteenth century
(good sherrif/bad mayor, good goldmine developer/bad railway
developer etc) and put them in the Russian context of the early
1990s, and you have the picture.
The
young generation are moving fast, and being very well educated
in the USA and Europe, they are learning to develop the business
and entrepreneurial skills which were lost during the dark years
of the Communist system. The older generation at the head of
their businesses are the most cautious, but when you get to
know them and hear their storis of how they managed the transition
from state owned to commercial companies with no business models
to follow, you can only admire their courage and creativity.
See
you when we get back
All
the best
